Forever Remember

The names of 1,355 victims of the October 7th massacre and the fallen of the “Iron Swords” war were engraved on a microchip aboard NASA's Europa Clipper. They launched on October 14, 2024, and are on their way to Jupiter's moon Europa.

About the project

Meidad Pariente, entrepreneur and space engineer, VP Space at ORBITInsure and a mentor at the Restart veterans association, set out to commemorate the names through NASA's “Message in a Bottle” campaign. Together with software developer and algorithmic-trading entrepreneur Avishai Tsabari, he built a tool that submitted every name, in Hebrew, exactly as published in the official sources.

“I know it is only a symbolic gesture. But the thought that the names of our loved ones are engraved forever on a chip flying hundreds of millions of kilometres to Europa, on a mission searching for life beyond Earth, gives me hope that what happened will never be forgotten. Whenever we look up at the night sky, we will remember them, all of them.”Meidad Pariente

NASA issued a personal certificate for every name. On this site you can find each name and download its certificate. The site is in Hebrew; use the search on the names page.

The mission

Europa Clipper is NASA's largest planetary spacecraft. After a 2.9-billion-kilometre journey, with gravity assists from Mars (March 2025) and Earth (December 2026), it will enter orbit around Jupiter on April 11, 2030 and make 49 close flybys of Europa, some just 25 km above the ice, to determine whether the ocean beneath it could support life.

Names submitted by January 10, 2024 were etched by electron beam onto silicon microchips, together with U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón's “In Praise of Mystery: A Poem for Europa”, and mounted on a tantalum vault plate on the spacecraft.
